Mini Fairs at OPS

What is a Mini Fair?

THE MINI FAIR - What is it?

This is a fun school event held at lunchtime with different stalls including food, puzzles, toys, face painting, books and games for our children and families to enjoy.

Items are usually priced from 50 cents to $5.

Stalls include…

Who runs it?...and how do I get involved?

The Mini Fair is organised and run by Friends of the School (Fots). It’s a mixture of a ‘fund-raiser and a ‘fun-raiser’. It’s also a great way to bring our school whānau into our school.

If you are able to help with the setup from 11.30am, your help would be fantastic. Come to our office and we will let you know what is needed.

You can also add your name to the roster in the office or online to help on a stall. There are two shifts on the day, so you are not on a stall for the duration of the Mini Fair.

Does my child have to bring money?

This is totally optional. You can send your child along with lunch as usual and they will still be part of the fun.

We will still have our usual sandwiches and fruit available for any children who need them.

Do I need to send my child’s usual lunch?

There is usually enough food that your child can easily buy items for their lunch. This is one of the small number of times where we have ‘treat’ type food, so there may be limited healthy options for sale.

We will still have our usual sandwiches and fruit available for any children who need them.

What if it rains?

The Mini fair is held on the field, it will go ahead regardless of the weather! If it is raining or the ground is too wet, stalls will be under the covered walkway outside the Kea area. It will mean that we have to be more structured in the way children visit the stalls - classes will be taken in groups and their 'shopping time' may have to be reduced.

On the morning of the Mini Fair:

BAKING - Please bring baking donations for the cake stall into the meeting room off the office. If you would like your container back, please send baking in a named container.

PLANTS - Please bring potted plants, bunches of herbs from your garden into the office foyer

Shopping Start Times

We start our younger children’s Mini Fair shopping slightly earlier to give them a quieter start to the event.

You are welcome to meet your child in the Kiwi Year 0-1 and Kea Year 2 Learning Communities outside their classrooms and go down and start shopping with them.

If your children are in Kereru and Piwakawaka (Year 3-6), please meet them on the field at 12.50.

Start times for children’s shopping:

Kiwi team  - 12.40 pm

Kea team  -  12.45 pm

All other classes and family members 12.50 pm

The Mini Fair will finish around 1.30pm…but possibly a bit later.

It’s a good idea to give your child a named purse/sealable plastic bag with coins and change in it. Sorry, we have no cash in the office.

Term 3 2024 Mini Fair Photos

We had a second Mini Fair for the year, thanks to the mahi of Friends of the School (FOTS). Mini Fairs are awesome for our school in a number of ways, a lot of fun which brings our community together, a fundraiser, learning for ākonga about money and spending, a chance for our sustainability enviro groups to sell items,  and they provide a great sustainable way to reuse pre-loved toys and books.

Thank you to the team behind making it happen and for those of you who supported it with donations, baking and purchasing.

This Mini Fair made over $3,000.00!
